Institute of Supply & Materials Management (ISMM) President Danesha Perera received an International Award at the Council Meeting of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) in UK.
He received the “Garner Themion” award for 2012 for Outstanding Contribution for the Advancement of the Profession of Purchasing and Supply Management from Svante Axelsson, President of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) at the Council Meeting held from 26th to 30th September 2012 in Toronto, Canada.
According to the IFPSM website Garner Thèmion Advancement of the profession Award is presented to an individual whose modest, unselfish, sincere and persistent efforts for the advancement of purchasing, supply management and logistics and who is able to assist and guide the purchasing agents in their endeavours, have eminently qualified him/her for one of the highest IFPSM awards. Perera has brought honour to Sri Lanka by winning an International Award, selected from among more than 45,000 Supply Chain Management Professionals representing the member institutions of IFPSM worldwide.
This is the first time a Sri Lankan has been recognized with this International Award by IFPSM and speaking to the media Perera very humbly said that this honour should go to the Members of ISMM and the staff who worked with him throughout his career at the different employments who co-operate with him to perform his duties to the best of his knowledge, ability and expectations.
The delegation consisting ISMM President Danesha Perera and Senior Delegate Gerry Hidelaratchi along with Vice Presidents Noel Wickremasinghe and I. G. Perera attended the IFPSM Council Meeting as well as the Asia Pacific Council Meeting. Purchasing Management Association Canada (PMAC) hosted the Council Meeting and more than 60 Senior Delegates attended representing SCM professional Associations Worldwide.
The meeting was headed by IFPSM President Svante Axelsson and was conducted by the newly appointed Director General Ms. Mary Lewis.
During the sessions Perera attended the meeting representing the Institute of Supply & Materials Management, Sri Lanka and contributed to the subjects discussed such as Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) and Global Standards introduced by IFPSM.
Perera said that IFPSM announced to have its next Council Meeting from 16th to 19th May 2013 in Bangalore, India. IFPSM will hold its Global Summit from 18th to 21st Sept 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. Sri Lanka will hold the IFPSM Council Meeting in the year 2014. Soeren Vammen – incoming President of IFPSM for the new term also addressed the Council Members along with the outgoing Director General Charles Holden.
Perera also thanked the ISMM delegation for participating in the meeting and also he stressed that it is important for SCM professionals in Sri Lanka participating in such cross cultural member meetings to interact with SCM professional in the other part of the world to understand the new trends and to be proactive in the competitive business environment.
