Galle Regional Centre ceremonially declared open
IPM Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management filled a long felt void for professional HR education in the fortress city of Galle by opening its fully-fledged ‘Regional Centre’ on Monday 17 March amidst a distinguished gathering of invitees which included eminent educationist, Senior Professor S.G.J.N. Senanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna who was the Chief Guest at the event.
In keeping with its leadership status, through its new Galle Regional Centre, IPM Sri Lanka intends reaching out to the entire business community in this fast developing coastal town and to extend its support towards building the socio-economic landscape of the region by adding value to human resources in the southern region.
The new IPM Sri Lanka Galle Regional Centre was ceremonially declared open by Senior Professor S.G.J.N. Senanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna in the company of IPM Sri Lanka President Samitha Perera and IPM Sri Lanka CEO Dyan Seneviratne and several council members and senior officials of the Institute together with a large number of students, parents and members of the professional community comprising university lecturers, school principals and business managers representing leading business organisations in the area.
The new centre has been thoughtfully designed taking due cognizance of modern learning and development principles among which ‘learning environment’ plays a decisive part. In view of this, the infrastructure of the new centre has been fortified with many learner-friendly features including air conditioned lecture halls, a mini-library, multimedia and other cutting-edge learning facilities such as Wi-Fi services so that the students are able to derive optimum benefits from their interactions with the institute; may it be during their education, reference study or other learning and development related activities.
IPM Sri Lanka President Samitha Perera under whose guidance the new Galle Regional Centre was established averred that the new centre, apart from catering to the human resource educational needs of the aspiring individuals living in the region will play a broader and a more meaningful role.
“IPM Sri Lanka intends serving the business community in the southern region with a broader array of services ranging from business consultancy, HR outsourcing and to create professional networking opportunities for the business managers living in the province. We are also planning to collaborate with the professional community in the southern region through partnerships such as enrolling them as faculty members and resource personnel and by offering them opportunities to connect with the broader HR and business community in the country,” he asserted, echoing IPM’s vision towards propelling HR as a value creating discipline in the management arena.
Senior Professor S.G.J.N. Senanayake in his address on this momentous occasion hailed the efforts of IPM Sri Lanka in taking the concept of human resource management to the ‘broader populace’ which he observed was the need of the hour in view of our nation’s efforts towards accelerated social and economic progress. Making a special remark on the theme chosen by
IPM Sri Lanka for its 2014 Prospectus, the learned professor stated that the theme ‘Creating a new DNA for Human Capital Management’ aptly describes the daunting responsibility thrust upon IPM Sri Lanka in promoting and propagating this invaluable management discipline and wished the institute success in this endeavour.
The opening of the new Galle Regional Centre will significantly expand IPM Sri Lanka’s ability to transform businesses through strategic, insight-based human resource management – a process which involves many management facets; learning, education, leadership, communication and more. Towards this end, the series of professional study programs offered through the Galle Regional Centre including the prestigious IPM Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management (PQHRM) will undoubtedly be a boon to the region’s ever expanding professional community who are fast embracing HR as a discipline that play a distinct role within the management sphere.
A member of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) through which it is affiliated to the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), IPM Sri Lanka is also a member of the Organization of Professional Associations (OPA) and is recognised as the apex body that represents the country’s human resource management profession.
