IPM Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management, is poised to deliver yet another ‘first-of-its kind’ award program for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of human resources while being employed in diverse fields.
IPM Sri Lanka People Leaders’ Awards is a national level initiative spearheaded by IPM to recognise finance, marketing, supply chain, engineering and IT professionals for the delivery of successful and superior people management practices in their respective industries.
This distinctive awards program which was created in 2014 has now been expanded to include the fields of IT and engineering for the year 2015, in order to acknowledge individuals who have made exceptional headway in leading and managing people in those fields.
One could go so far as to even quote that the IPM Sri Lanka People Leaders’ Awards are the only awards in Sri Lanka that attempt to recognise and reward individuals who have made HR ‘real’ in their chosen fields to effect superior business performance and sustainability through the practical application of successful human resource management.
Elaborating on this, Ajith R. de Costa, who is the IPM Sri Lanka People Leaders’ Awards Chairman, stated: “IPM’s mandate is to raise the professional standards in Human Resource Management and Development, and as such this one-of-a-kind Awards program aims to recognise individuals who have excelled in managing people while achieving their industry specific or department related objectives. I believe that the line managers are also HR managers and therefore we must endeavour to recognise those managers who have applied the theoretical aspects of HRM in a practical way to affect business success.”
Established under an Act of Parliament in 1976, IPM has become the leading authority on human resources in Sri Lanka, making significant contributions to the development and nurturing of the human resource management profession.

According to de Costa, the people leaders for 2015 for the IPM Sri Lanka People Leaders’ Awards will be selected from five industries: Finance, marketing, supply chain, engineering and IT.
Methodology
of selection
1) Eligibility: Individuals who are currently working in the fields of finance, marketing, supply chain, IT and engineering and have made a passionate difference in people management are eligible to be a part of this awards program.
2) Evaluation attributes: The candidates will be evaluated and selected based on five attributes, namely: Developing people, supporting people performance, building organisational capability; mobilising individual commitment and lastly displaying personal character.
3) Selection process: de Costa further explained that the final selection process consists of three aspects: a 360 degree assessment, presentations made by the candidates themselves as well as information and facts supplied by the candidates.
An eminent panel of judges will then evaluate and select the final candidates with the able support of Nielson, the leading global information and measurement company that provides market research, insights and data.
The panel of judges consists of distinguished individuals of the Sri Lankan HR academia, high ranking HR practitioners and professionals, prominent business leaders in the fields that are represented by the categories, representatives from the collaborating professional bodies and selected media professionals.
“IPM Sri Lanka People Leaders’ Awards is the culminating effort by IPM using a synergistic approach to recognise professionals in Sri Lanka,” said de Costa.
Delivered in collaboration with five leading professionals in Sri Lanka, namely, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), Chartered Institute of Marketing – Sri Lanka Region (CIM); The Institute of Supplies and Materials Management (ISMM), The Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and The Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL), this unique awards program, organised by IPM, brings together professionals of diverse fields under one roof to be recognised for their outstanding contribution towards fostering best people practices.
The winners of five categories will be unveiled at the National HR Conference 2015 which will be held on 16 and 17 June at the BMICH. Applications close on 10 May, and all professionals in the fields of finance, marketing, supply chain, engineering and IT who have a passion for people are encouraged to send in their applications to IPM.
