Plans are underway to conduct the Master of Business Administration degree program in Taxation by the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), another pioneering venture from the pioneer in postgraduate management education.
This program will be initially conducted for the employees of the Dept. of Inland Revenue and thereafter it will be opened for the public.
The relevant MOU has been signed recently between the PIM and the Dept. of Inland Revenue. Inland Revenue Commissioner General Kalyani Dahanayake and Postgraduate Institute of Management Director Dr. Ajantha S. Dharmasiri were the signatories at this historical event.
This program will enhance the managerial and taxation capabilities of the officials of the Department of Inland Revenue, and in turn contribute to better administration and higher performance of the Dept. Since this degree program has been coupled with the existing promotion scheme of the Dept., the qualification will serve as a requirement for the career development of these officers.
It will also broaden the academic horizons of young graduates for whom the proposed program will serve as an entry-level qualification for advanced international academic studies in taxation. This will also serve as an aid for career change and progression of the recipients.
On completion of this study program, the participants will be able to demonstrate critical awareness of fundamental and advanced aspects of taxation, and related functional disciplines while applying the relevant techniques in their roles as managerial professionals of the Dept. of Inland Revenue in Sri Lanka.
They will also deal with complex taxation and related issues systematically and make sound judgments and communicate decisions clearly. They will project professionalism in taxation and related functional areas in discharging their roles as managers both individually and as a member of a team, to uphold the image of the country, in the competitive global scenario in taxation.
