iOM Sri Lanka (Formally known as EDS) recently conducted a presentation on the potential of gaining efficiencies through increased productivity by utilising modern HCM solutions. Speaking at the event, iOM’s Training Associate Milinda Wijayasekara, mentioned that there is a vast untapped potential in most companies in Sri Lanka and at this juncture where the country is emerging after a treacherous 30 year war, the time is opportune for Sri Lankan industries to blossom and grow. A spokesperson for iOM commented on how software (iOM HRPro) was used to turning around an ailing group of hospitals in Thailand from the brink of foreclosure to profitability and sustainable growth within a space of just six months. “The trick was to analyse the peaks and troughs of the skill demand, and to arrange rosters accordingly so as to ensure that not a single man-hour was spent in vein,” were the comments of Darryl Maytom who was the chief architect of this successful turnaround. It was revealed that only a handful of Sri Lankan companies accessed the potential of Roster Management to its true potential even though almost 80% of their costs were incurred in the area of employees working in shifts. Wijesekara feels that the lack of knowledge of such software solutions coupled with the International Pricing of most HCM solutions may be contributing factors. However, he feels this itself would be the key to productivity and human capital efficiencies with more awareness and ‘Sri Lankan’ pricing, by such global players would inevitably provide a win-win solution for all stake-holders.
