One of the foremost professional bodies in Sri Lanka, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) together with the business school for the world, INSEAD, launched yet another pioneering venture, a four-day Global Leadership Programme aimed at high-end professionals and business leaders in Sri Lanka earlier this week.

Commencing yesterday at the Cinnamon Grand, the sold-out programme – conducted by the renowned Affiliate Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Programme Director of the INSEAD Business School Dr. Thomas Mannarelli – will conclude on 18 June.

Participants will be subjected to a thought-provoking outline of topics covering a wide array of areas aimed at enhancing the leadership qualities of the country’s corporate movers and shakers. Among the topics that would be covered in the programme are vision and leadership, transition, creative thinking outside the box, influence without authority, leading organisational change, leading high performance teams, decision making under uncertainty, negotiation dynamics and influencing for change.

“This is a very proud moment for ICASL. One of the things we wanted to do was to give the ICASL Business School, which was started many years ago, a new lease of life and one of the things we had in mind last year was that we wanted to offer cutting-edge executive education in Colombo as it was something that was lacking in Colombo and today this has been done with INSEAD and we are very proud to have them here,” said ICASL President Sujeewa Mudalige.

He added that this programme would prove to be a fantastic learning experience and that the ICASL looked forward to many more short-term and medium-term partnerships with INSEAD in the future. In fact, in the face of the overwhelming response to the first Global Leadership Programme from professionals in Sri Lanka, the organisers have already commenced intakes for the second ICASL-INSEAD Global Leadership Programme scheduled for September 2011.

The President also revealed that ICASL had ambitious plans of putting up a six-storey complex on its campus and the project which would cost Rs. 400 million is slated to be completed by September 2012.

“Personally, I’m very interested in learning about Asia. I’ve been with INSEAD for 14 years, of which 11 years have been spent in Asia and part of what I enjoy the most is going to new places and learning about things. When we started discussing setting up the partnership with the ICASL, I was first onboard to make it happen,” said Dr. Mannarelli.

“Executive education is very important because when you talk about leadership, it’s one of those subjects that you never master so regardless of whether you are a fresh graduate and in your first job managing people of if you are 30 years into the job and the CEO of a large company, there are always new things to learn about leadership – it’s a continuous learning process.”

As one of the world’s largest leading graduate business schools, INSEAD is a pioneer in international business education. Based in Europe with campuses in France, Asia and Abu Dhabi and a research centre in Isreal, INSEAD’s business education and research span three continents boasting alumni of over 41,000 from over 160 countries and a faculty of 145 from 36 countries.
