Human Resource Management Institute (HRMI) provides a seamless step-by-step pathway to enable an Advanced Level student to pursue a Master’s Degree in Management under one roof. Parents of children who wish to pursue a professional course or a degree in Human Resource Management could be relieved and happy to know that internationally recognised HR courses are now available in Sri Lanka with HRMI.

Students with at least two subjects at Advanced Level and interested in pursuing a degree programme have the opportunity of following the globally recognised Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diploma in Business in Human Resource Management – two year course of studies.

The Edexcel HND will enable the students to directly enrol themselves for the Edexcel Level 7 Pre-Masters Course which is a Post Graduate Qualification equivalent to the first year of a two year MBA (Master of Business Administration).  The entire course of studies can be completed in Sri Lanka or in UK.

Several UK universities are offering Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree courses in Sri Lanka for students with Edexcel Qualification. For those interested in completing their studies abroad, Edexcel qualifications are recognised by a large majority of universities in several commonwealth countries.

Nirosha Perera, a student, explained her reasoning for enrolling on the Edexcel Higher National Diploma in Business – Human Resources at the HRMI: “I am here following the same course I would do in UK at a fraction of a cost. What would have cost me almost Rs. 2 million per year in London I am paying just Rs. 120,000. My plan is to follow the HND in Colombo and do the final year either here or in UK. My HND is equivalent to two years of the Degree and teaching quality is really good and payment plan is so easy as I pay the entire course fees in monthly instalments.”

HRMI has structured its syllabi according to the specifications laid out by Edexcel UK and is comparable and compatible with the standard and quality in UK.  Apart from the Higher National Diploma course which leads to a Bachelors Degree and a Masters, HRMI also conducts a variety of professional programmes for those interested in shorter-duration courses.

The Level 1 – Certificate in HRM is a three month course for school leavers with O/Ls to embark on a HR career and gradually progress on to higher levels. The Level 2 – Executive Certificate is a 4½-month comprehensive course which provides coverage to many aspects of Operational HR as well as Strategic HR in addition to the legal aspects of managing people.

The Executive Certificate is a popular option amongst those employed as it provides an in-depth coverage to appreciate the role of the HR function in an organisation. Many officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force, Army, Navy and Police have followed the Executive Certificate as it is considered to compliment their roles in non-HR functions.

This course has also been perceived by military officers as a part of their post-retirement plans for transition into private sector managerial positions. The Executive Certificate also opens a pathway to the Higher National Diploma and the Masters options.

The unique feature in HRMI courses of study is the opportunity every student has in undergoing a six-month internship training attached to a HR Department in a leading company. During these six months, students go through a systematic training in many aspects of HR Management which enables them to relate the learning to real life practices.

Besides, this training becomes extremely important in students securing employment as merely following a course is deemed inadequate to secure a job in today’s competitive job market.

A large majority of the students secure employment after completing their internship as they create a positive image due to the very practical and professional training they have received at the Institute. The students are guided by a senior and qualified panel of lecturers.

The panel of lecturers at HRMI consists of top HR professionals in the country who head the HR function in many multi-nationals, local and foreign banks and leading private sector companies. The students are privileged to learn under some of the most sought-after HR professionals and trainers in the country who use modern teaching and training techniques to make the learning interesting and absorbing.

Browse ‘www.hrmi.lk’ for details of lecturers and courses. The syllabi and study texts used at HRMI are on par with the latest in UK, thus enabling the students to follow courses of international standard at a fraction of the cost locally.

HRMI Level 1 Certificate, Level 2 Executive Certificate and Level 3 Executive Diploma are courses registered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission in Sri Lanka while the Edexcel Higher National Diploma in Business – Human Resources is equivalent to Year 1 and Year 2 of a Bachelor’s Degree leading to direct admission to the Final Year in many Universities in UK, Australia, USA and elsewhere in the world. Over 100 Universities recognise the Edexcel HNDs for admission and exemptions.
