Committee to evaluate z-score

Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayaka says the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Ministry to appoint a committee to evaluate the methodology of admitting GCE Advanced Level passed students to universities.

The committee will comprise academics who are experts in statistics and they are assigned to compile a new z-score, says the Minister.

Recently, The Supreme Court delayed the verdict in a petition filed by a teachers’ union against malpractices occurred during the calculation of z-scores after the 2011 GCE A/L examination. The petitioners allege that the z-score calculation has several errors in it and requested for a recalculation.
