The MBA Alumni Association, University of Colombo will hold its 20thAnnual General Meeting on 29 June at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Colombo Residencies.
The Australian High Commissioner Bryce Hutchesson would grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. In addition, the Deputy Chairman University Grants Commission Professor P.S.M. Gunaratne, Vice Chancellor University of Colombo Professor Lakshman Dissanayake and Faculty of Finance and Management Dean Dr. R. Senathiraja would also be present as Guests of Honour.
It is customary for the Association to elect new office bearers and a new Executive Committee at the AGM. The outgoing President Sarmaa Mahalingam would preside over the official functions of the AGM where he would be handing over the mantle to the new President elect – Irshan Jayah to take over as President for the year 2017/18. This annual event provides opportunity for fellowship and networking amongst the members is a much sought after event in the Alumni’s calendar.
The MBA Alumni Association of University of Colombo is an active body with a membership base of around 600 plus members from diverse fields. It carries out events of national importance bringing together the academia, corporates and the public sector. The Annual budget seminars organised by the MBA Alumni Association has been well regarded by the corporate community in Sri Lanka. Both Pre and Post Budget sessions were chaired by the Minister of Finance along with the Senior Treasury Officials, Corporate Sector, corporate sector and a wide cross section of the public. The flagship event of the Association is its annual Management Conference which creates a platform of sharing of information to the business community. This year’s Management Conference was held in June 2017 on the theme ‘Growing with Giants’ to analyse the opportunities created by the Belt and Road initiative and the two new FTAs to be signed by Sri Lanka with India and China.
In addition, the Association encourages continuous education to its member. During the year, it partnered with the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors for its members to follow the Board Leadership Program.
The Association has become a vibrant entity in Sri Lanka which seeks to build close ties with the University of Colombo and assist it to raise the bar of the MBA program in par with the international standards.
