CIMA (the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) recruited a record number of new students last year, with over 23,000 embarking on their journey to become fully qualified chartered management accountants.
The growth was consistent across all of CIMA’s traditional key markets, including the UK and Sri Lanka, which saw increasing numbers of graduates and school leavers choosing to study CIMA.
In Pakistan, student numbers doubled for the second year in succession, following the opening of a second country office in Lahore.
CIMA reported a year on year student growth of 72% in China, where strong relationships have been forged with some of the country’s most reputable universities. These partnerships have meant that the universities include the CIMA syllabus in their curriculum, ensuring high quality entrants to the programme and a sustainable teaching model.
Andrew Harding, Executive Director, CIMA, commented: ‘2010 has seen CIMA’s largest ever student annual intake and largest year-on-year rise to date. The figures go to show that in challenging economic times, ambitious graduates and school leavers across the world are taking no chances with their future careers and are choosing to study for a qualification that will equip them with the skills and expertise to become the business leaders of the future.’
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, founded in 1919, is the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants, with 183,000 members and students operating in 168 countries, working at the heart of business. CIMA members and students work in industry, commerce and not for profit organisations. CIMA works closely with employers and sponsors leading-edge research, constantly updating its qualification, professional experience requirements and continuing professional development to ensure it remains employers’ choice when recruiting financially trained business leaders.
Opening of relocated CIMA Kandy office today
In response to an increasing demand for the next generation qualification in the region, CIMA has relocated its Kandy office offering its students and members enhanced facilities.
The office will be declared open by, Governor of Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa on Tuesday with the guest of honour at the occasion being George Glass, Global President of CIMA.
It is located at No.229, Peradeniya Road, Kandy — a convenient location with an auditorium and enhanced student study facilities.
The Kandy office of CIMA commenced operations in April 2007, when the Sri Lanka division took a conscious decision to be more “inclusive” and provide facilities for student’s throughout the county to embark on the globally recognised qualification and support the need for professional development of the student population out of Colombo.
Officials of CIMA confirmed that the average registrations since the opening in Kandy have been on a steady increase and last year the Kandy office was able to reach a record high, with a 100% growth over the previous year’s registrations. This was possible due to broad basing of the catchment areas in the Kandy District, mainly from Dambulla, Matale, Kurunegala, Kegalle, Gampola etc. and the expansion of delivery channels in those areas. The Kandy office thus has been converted into a regional hub, catering to students above 16 years from all parts of the region. The relocation was as a result of the increased student population and the potential for growth and the demand for CIMA qualification in the area.
In addition, there are 2 tuition providers who are CIMA Quality Partners operating in Kandy to ensure that the students of that region are offered the same quality of tuition support that is enjoyed by the students in Colombo.
