ICCSSL is a body registered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka as an official training institute to conduct classes, examinations and issue certificates for the prestigious degree of Chartered Corporate Secretary. It is the one and only Institution in Sri Lanka to offer this degree. ICCSSL is also registered with the Organization of Professional Associations (OPA) of Sri Lanka. It is also a member of the CISA (Corporate Secretaries International Association) which is a world body of Corporate Secretaries.
Briefing on the background on the establishment of the Institute in 2008, an official of the Institute states that the UK qualified Chartered Secretaries resident in Sri Lanka, considering the enormous cost for the local students interested in qualifying as Chartered Secretaries decided that the only solution was for Sri Lanka to have its own institute and formed the Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretaries of Sri Lanka as a limited liability company, limited by guarantee.
The different modules of the ICCSSL examinations cover a wide range of subjects so that the ultimate Board Secretary will be a professional confident enough to face and be a part of any board room as he or she would have gained a wide knowledge ranging from business environment, administration and management, business, industrial and company law, corporate, financial and management accounting, capital markets and regulations, company secretarial practice and last but not least the much needed knowledge of corporate governance and practice.
There are many opportunities for qualified Chartered Secretaries apart from being Company/Board Secretaries in a senior executive/managerial position serving the boards of reputed public/private limited liability companies, state corporations, statutory bodies, etc.
