Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Governor of the Central Bank will be the Chief Guest when the Sri Lanka Federation of University Women (SLFUW) holds its AGM on 12 November at 9 a.m. at its headquarters on Kitulwatte Road, Colombo 08.
He will speak on ‘Sri Lankan Economy: Opportunities and Challenges’.
This had been a significant year for the SLFUW as it marked its 75th anniversary with the holding of several events which included the awarding of scholarships to over 75 needy women undergraduates from most of the 14 universities, the upgrading of its hostel for women undergraduates located in its premises and the holding of a symposium with ‘the role of women in good governance, justice and democracy’ as its subject.
The symposium brought forth some forceful recommendations which in due course will be handed over to relevant authorities to be incorporated in national policies. With women having to combat on political, economic and social fronts, it has become imperative for the SLFUW to play a broader role and act as a pressure group in order to empower women.
