When asked in relation to the intention behind targeting this specific age group he said: “Research has found globally that people get into a slow drive between the ages of 35-50 and the time when they hit 50 the gap between their expectations and accomplishments widens and even in Sri Lanka most of the people when they become 40 they tend to sort of go with the flow and prepare for the retirement period. This has an impact on themselves, their family lives, the organisation and ultimately the country’s workforce.”
Furthermore he noted that Sri Lanka is one of the fastest aging countries thus its very likely that authorities will up the retirement age to 65 which means an individual who’s 40 has 25 years of work life remaining.
“This program is to awaken them to draw attention showing how you should live the next 20-25 years of your life. You have so much of skills and knowledge it’s a choice if one should just go with the flow or make a difference.”
Emerson’s inspiration behind conducting successful coaching programs revolves around human experiences. According to him most people today don’t live the gift of life.
“If you take a man’s distribution of mind space one would find that 40% goes to concentrate on the pain of the pasta and a further 40% goes to the fear of the future and just about 15%-20% one will live today. Today is the moment of magic but no one does anything about it. I want people to dive in and think am I living the purpose of my life, am I giving a return for the best gift I’ve received that is life by living,” he added.
Emerson who also once served as deputy CEO of Pan Asia Bank, holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Jayewardenepura. He is a fellow of the Institute of Bankers Sri Lanka (IBSL) and is also a member of the National Think Tank. Moreover he is the founder CEO of Business Athlete, a company which specialises in business coaching. For registrations email: [email protected].
