The building blocks of HR seem to be clear and easy to comprehend; yet is it easy to manage the mental building blocks of actual people? HR professionals all over the world dapple with their own recipe to manage this animate quotient of their business. These recipes that were written as ‘best practices’ and which were globally accepted at one period of time, have become obsolete in another.

Fad’s and fashion dictates emerging tools/ techniques and they constantly improve the quality of work life. On the same token we find creative organizations have found home grown methods of being more effective in managing the heart and mind of people. The question is, are we willing to test and see where we are? Are we willing to gauge our HR practices against the best? Are we really willing to make a positive change in our systems? Are we willing to challenge status quo? If the answer is ‘YES’ – then how do we do it?

The HRM Awards - Super 10 is clearly synonymous with setting the right tempo for organizations to build on their HR processes. Being the pioneer of the HR awards in Sri Lanka, the Association of HR Professionals of Sri Lanka takes pride in bringing a global approach to the Audit while customizing on its approach to suit the nation. AON Hewitt the global leader in human resource consulting and outsourcing solutions with 29,000 employees, 330 offices in 90 countries, serving over 80% of the Fortune 500 companies, would spear head the content management element. They bring to the table consistency and reliability through proven methodology. They are passionate about the awards as they have been a part of the awards for many years.

How would organizations benefit through the exercise? The process would entail a rigorous audit procedure and a report. The audit process would help us realize how the intricate HR processes synergize to amplify the end result.  For example have you thought of how a simple role template or a compensation and benefit package relates to the strategic intent of the business? Yet, we may believe it is already locked in and thus the HR team is in the business of partnering.  In actual fact there may be a lot more we can do to help the organization achieve its end result.  The audit would help the organizations understand the organization/ demographics, people challenges, talent supply dynamics, the leadership of the organization and  its strategic decisions, performance management, capacity building and development, rewards and recognition, employee relationships and the HR process of the business.

The competent and robust judging process involves an initial self-evaluation questionnaire, followed by a detailed questionnaire sent by AON Hewitt. Subsequently the companies that are short-listed would be visited and a validation audit would take place. After the conclusion of the field visits a detailed report will be presented to the judges based on the findings. The results of this audit would then be transposed to blind data without recognition of companies before it would be given to the international Judging panel. The Judging panel would judge the awards based on the agreed criteria and negate all other concerns.

Motivate your HR teams and the management of the value the awards brings to the organization. Talk about the value of being a business partner and the need to check on how we can be more effective.
