Akzo Nobel Paint shines at NipunaTharu Awards 2013

Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka carried away the three top awards at Nipuna Tharu Awards 2013 recently. Madushanka Premarathna, Nalaka Prabath and Chathuranga Kulathunga from Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka Ltd won the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively. Nipuna Tharu Awards 2013 attracted more than 50 contestants from the Automobile Engineering Training Institute. The awards ceremony was held in January 2014 at BMICH. Nipuna Tharu is an annual awards program conducted by Automobile Engineering Training Institute and National Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development for auto painters under 35 years of age. More than sixty students qualify in auto painting from the Institute which was established in November 1989 by a grant aid from the Government of Japan at a cost of Rs. 500 million. The institute plays a major role in the skills upgrading of the employees engaged in the automobile industry by introducing modern technology through skills upgrading programs. AETI principal, Channa Subasinghe said that the institute maintains a cordial industrial relationship with Akzo Nobel paints Lanka Ltd. “Akzo Nobel Paints (Pvt) Ltd provides us with training material, sharing industrial and technological knowhow and new trends, etc. They have already donated a Colour mixing Machine to our auto painting division, hence, we can produce skilled students each year who can keep up with the new industrial environmental and technological changes,” he added. Akzo Noble Paints Lanka Ltd has been offering employment for many of AETI graduates over the years.
