Access Engineering PLC, the leading value engineering solutions provider in Sri Lanka, was the gold sponsor for Stat Day 2012 which was successfully held for the 10th consecutive year at the Professor V.K. Samaranayake Auditorium on 28 June.
Organised by the University of Colombo, the Stat Day is the main highlight of the ‘Stat Circle’ event calendar. The Stat Circle is a student society of the university whose primary objective is to enhance the statistical knowledge of students and the community as well as communicate and exchange ideas with other societies, universities and the industry.
Since its inauguration in 2002, the Stat Circle has grown immensely as a result of its members, who have tirelessly worked towered its popularity and development.
Today, the Stat Circle is a much recognised organisation and is one of the most active and dynamic student societies within the university.
“When the Stat Circle approached us as a sponsor for the event, we saw it as the ideal platform to demonstrate our continued efforts in scientific decision making and evidence-based management initiatives,” said Access Engineering Chief Operating Officer Rohana Fernando.
Head of Human Resources Dr. Prabath Karunanayake made a presentation on ‘Research and statistics from the construction and HR viewpoint’ during which he highlighted the transformation of the construction industry towards scientific decision making for organisational development and the importance of research inputs for HRM and HRD practices in the Sri Lankan context.
Dr. Karunanayake also touched on the theme of the event ‘Statistics for Innovation and Business Improvement’ by highlighting the best global statistical practices in the corporate sector and built a significant argument against the notion of ‘not everything that counts can be counted’.
Present at the event were academics, professionals, prominent figures from the private and public sector as well as undergraduates from the University of Colombo and other institutions.
