The Annual Conference, the flagship event of the ACCA Sri Lanka Students’ Committee, brings together eminent corporate personalities to share their insights, experience and knowledge with the Conference participants to be held on the 21 September 2013, at the Kings’ Court, Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As the largest global professional Accountancy body, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of Sri Lanka has formed the ACCA Students’ Committee to host events which add value to young corporates/students to enrich their soft-skills to complement the theoretical knowledge while creating a platform for professional networking. In the competitive business landscape, team work has emerged a paramount aspect of success. It is almost impossible for an individual to achieve success alone resulting from the many dependencies surrounding us. Thus, it can be generalised that success is achieved through increased individual ability to initiate, foster, maintain and fulfil multi-party collaborative relationships and partnerships. The conference this year will cover topics to be applied to practical team working scenarios including: nSuccess through Synergy – Some believe that the skill of being a good team player is more nature than nurture. This session would take a birds-eye view of team working and achieving success to further enhance one’s individual success. nCreate positivity: Achieve success – Positivity has a tremendous impact on one’s ability to think creatively, progress in their careers, cope with challenges and also work with others. This session would focus directly on the strategies to drive enthusiasm, motivation and reinforce positivity within a group. nBeing agents of change – Charles Darwin stated, “It is not the strongest that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to ‘change’”. With focus on the above, this session would look into the perception one should take towards change and how such a perception would help to make you an ideal team player. n‘Limits just like fear are often just an illusion’ – Individually, and as a team, we all have fears and managing these obstacles and overcoming them – is a challenge we all seek to achieve. This session would focus specifically on the inter-personal synergies we need to achieve on our road to success. nSharing risk and responsibility: managing expectations and differences – Is there actually one risk owner when you are in a team? This session will cover in-depth of the importance of sharing risks as well as responsibilities to achieve the desired results and the role of managing the differing interests and expectations of the group members. The above mentioned sessions would be followed by a panel discussion on the topic of ‘An engaged employee: Branding yourself’. The panel would provide an insight into the effect of the individual brands of an employee on the overall brand of the organisation, helping the audience to gauge the importance of their individual brand on the organisation’s brand. The Conference this year is sponsored by: Hatton National Bank (HNB) as the Official Banking Partner, Associated Motor Ways (AMW) as the Exclusive Silver Sponsor, American National College (ANC) and LG Smartphone’s as Co-Gold Sponsors.
