ACCA’s Annual General meeting was held recently at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo. Nisreen Rehmanjee, who presently heads the tax function of the John Keells Group as Vice President and Tax Group Head and was elected as the President for ACCA Sri Lanka last year, continues as President for the year 2011/2012 as well.
She has over 15 years experience in taxation dealing with both national and international taxation and has served 10 years with KPMG, where the last four of them was as Tax Director of the organisation.
She is also the recipient of the Chairman’s award for outstanding performance with the John Keells Group in 2008/2009.
Horana Plantations Managing Director and CEO Rajive Casie Chetty, who held the position of Vice President last year, will continue once again as Vice President for the year 2011/2012.
The rest of the executive committee selected for the year 2011/2012 comprised of Nandika Buddhipala, Dilshan Rodrigo, Dhanushka Samarasinghe, B.H.S. Jayawardena, Cyril Mundy, Kumudini Gunatilleka, Irshad Thameem, Adrian Perera, Channa De Silva, Suranimala Anthony, Supul Wijesinghe and Jehan Perinpanayagam. Addressing the gathering Rehmanjee pointed out that the value of the ACCA qualification and how it differentiates one from any other finance professional has been proven time and again , with ACCA’s emphasis on continuous professional development , the high standards expected from its members in terms of governance and ethical behaviour, the vast amount of knowledge and information the ACCA members has easy access to ensure that they are updated with the latest developments in the profession, reflects on the quality of the qualification.
Rahmanjee concluded by stating: “Employers have begun to recognise this and the demand for ACCA qualified members has increased to such an extent that it is a challenge to keep pace with the demand.”
