AAT Sri Lanka wins Gold award in silver jubilee year

Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL) emerged the Gold Award winner having been adjudged the best business association in Sri Lanka at the recently concluded National Business Excellence Awards 2013. The National Business Excellence Awards, a much looked forward event in the corporate calendar was organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view to recognising and rewarding sustainable business enterprises that demonstrate excellence in business while contributing to the efforts of economic progress of Sri Lanka. “We are sincerely proud of this achievement as AAT Sri Lanka has been recognised as a business entity with excellent performance as well as a noteworthy contributor for the economic growth of the country,” says AAT Sri Lanka President Ganaka Amarasinghe. “This is the first time AAT SL participated in this achievers’ event and we are immensely happy and privileged to be rewarded with the Gold Award in 2013 The Silver Jubilee year of AAT,” he added. The National Business Excellence Awards recognise performance of sustainable corporate enterprises which have achieved business excellence whilst contributing to the community and the economy. An eminent team of professionals headed by Prof. Uditha Liyanage comprised the panel of judges which made the difficult yet definite decisions in selecting the winners. At the elegant awards presentation ceremony, Prof. Liyanage clarified the criteria based for the selections which included Leadership, Corporate Governance, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Local and Global market reach, CSR and Environment Sustainability and Business and Financial Results among others. “Being considered for the gold award on the overall performance on such criteria enhances the quality of the achievements,” added Amarasinghe. Strict and impartial process The competition attracted over 200 applicants and a strict and impartial process has been followed for the review and interviews in selecting and nominating the winners. This gold award on the very first entry of AAT at the NBEA awards competitions signifies its escalating performance over the years culminating with the silver jubilee, creating a tremendous value addition to the associations. During the past 25 years, AAT Sri Lanka has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of youth seeking a better tomorrow. The presence of AAT as a professional body has made a substantial impact on their career dreams. Highest achievers of GCE A/L examinations have been following AAT and acknowledge their examination success to the knowledge and guidance received from the AAT. The AAT SL impact assessment found that students following AAT educational programs simultaneously while pursuing their GCE A/L examinations get a tremendous boost in their results. Over the years, the majority from the top 100 ranks in the island’s commerce stream was AAT students and the last year AATSL student Seshani Gunatilleke became the all-island first in the 2012 G.C.E (A/L) Commerce stream. “By reaching the highest rank in our sector, we got the opportunity to justify our performance to our students. We believe they will be inspired by the success of their institute and be happy to be a part of the winning team. As this juncture, we pledge our fullest commitment to take AAT Sri Lanka to the forefront,” added a jubilant CEO. The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL) was created on the initiative of CA (Chartered Accountants) Sri Lanka to produce middle level accounting professionals to meet the demand of the growing economy. AAT SL is an Associate Member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the key body for Accountants. AATSL has the distinction of being the first Associate Member of the Confederation of Asian Pacific Accountants (CAPA), the leading network of accounting bodies in the region. AATSL is governed by a 16-member Governing Council consisting of eminent professionals. As a professional membership body the AATSL is dedicated to the education, development, regulation and support of accounting technicians. AAT is engaged in the award of internationally recognised skills-based accountancy and finance qualifications to enhance professional development, network and fast-track to Chartered status on obtaining AAT full membership.
