S-lon conducts successful regional plumber’s programs

S-lon Lanka Ltd., which is a subsidiary of The Capital Maharaja Group, recently conducted three regional Plumber’s Club programs in Pelmadulla, Ambalangoda and Galle. 

The programs were conducted on 9 November at Silver Ray Hotel, Palmadulla, on 11 November at Sea Breeze Hotel, Ambalangoda and on 30 November at Aradhana Hotel, Galle.

Established in October 2001 under the leadership of The Capital Maharaja Group Director S.C. Weerasekara, the S-lon Plumber’s Club was founded with the objective to develop and evolve the knowledge, technique and standards surrounding the modern plumbing industry and thereby uplifting the social acceptance of the plumbing profession.  

Over the last two decades, the club has grown to a base of over 8,000 active members who benefit from the practical and informative area-based sessions conducted under the guidance of some of S-lon’s most respected senior professionals in the field. These programs explore the growing trends, opportunities, challenges and qualifications in the current market. 

The end goal is to continually develop the local plumbing industry in addition to improving the professional and personal standards of plumbers. The Plumber Club extends career guidance and support towards developing plumbers’ career prospects and attaining career recognition through NTT (National Trade Test) and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) with the partnership of NAITA.

Additionally, S-lon Plumber’s Club offers an insurance scheme for its members. From this, it inculcates a habit of saving for their future and it will support and protect them during injuries and demises. S-lon also initiated “Nena Saviya”, a scholarship scheme for children of S-lon Plumber’s Club members. Children who excel in Grade 5 scholarship exams will receive financial support until A/Ls.

The recently concluded programs were conducted under the stipulated hygienic regulations and held in partnership with the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA). Speaking at one of the events, S.C. Weerasekara noted: “We have a duty as a leading entity in the local industry to motivate and continue to develop the industry standards and evolve this profession to adapt to modern times.” 

He went on to speak about the continued support and involvement of the local plumbing community, stating “it is heartening to see that the efforts of our initiative are being realized by professionals who are motivated to uplift and take their profession to great heights. Plumbers are one of the key patrons for the protection and care of the environment. Improper handling and installation of pipes and fittings pollute clean water and clean air, thus affecting healthy living. 

“Therefore, improving the knowledge and technology know how of plumbers is key for the country’s sustenance. On the other hand, obtaining recognition and social acceptance, protecting the plumbing community and their families are important for the plumbing industry as whole”.  

The programs were held under the guidance of Manager – Product Development and S-lon Plumber’s Club Manager Mohomed Shiraas, together with S.C. Weerasekara. Other representatives from S-lon included S-lon Lanka CEO Gehan Amarasinghe, Sales Manager Sanath Chaminda, Manager – Dealer Sales and Development Prasanna Chandrasekeran, Brand Manager Mohamed Rizny and S-lon area Sales Representatives. Several officials of the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority also participated in the programs.

Priyantha Weliwatta and Malin Weliwatte of Pelmadulla S-lon Distribution Centre and Pelamadulla Divisional Secretary D.S.G. Ruwansiri participated in the program in Pelmadulla.

The program at Ambalangoda was attended by Anil Yuwanath of Hikkaduwa S-lon Distribution Centre and Nandana Jeewa of Nandana PVC Ltd.

Ranu Karunasekara of Galle S-lon Distribution Centre and Southern Province Engineering Services Deputy Chief Secretary K.P. Wickramage participated in the program in Galle.
