The use of education technology can bring a huge change in education. Internet and e learning devices can make classroom environment extremely amazing. With that in mind Old Boys of Richmond College Union Colombo and the 70-80 Group of Richmond College donated two smart classrooms with a modernised method of education which provides quality education to students by helping them through better concept formation, concept elaboration, improvement in reading skills and academic achievements. These classrooms are equipped with interactive boards, multi media projectors and wireless podiums with built in sound system, document cameras and laptop computers.
The equipment were formally handed over to the Principal of Richmond College – Galle, Sampath Weragoda by the incumbent Presidents of the two groups Sujeewa Rajapakse and Channa Wijesekara along with group members in a simple ceremony held during the morning hours on Sunday 18 March.
Rajapakse, addressing the event said that Richmond College Union is extremely happy to have been able to provide the latest equipment to their alma mater for the benefit of the students in the school and informed that the Union is planning to provide few more smart classrooms to expand the benefit of the digital education to most of the students of the school. He requested the Principal of the school to make use of the equipment to the optimum capacity so that the students will be able to face the latest challenges in digital education. Rajapakse thanked Walter Ladduwahetti a prominent Richmonddite who donated all the equipment of the smart classroom.
Wijesekara stressed that the millennials should be provided with the best equipment for their education and the country requires tech savvy students who will lead the economy of the country. He requested the Principal to maintain the equipment properly for the best use and thanked the EX Co of 70-80 Group for the contribution made for the worthy cause.
Richmond College Principal SampathWeragoda stated that he is extremely happy that within a month of his request two Old Boys Associations volunteered to donate two smart classrooms and further said that the school is fortunate to have lot of young teachers who are IT savvy and as such the teaching through new technologies will not be difficult and further said that he has already planned how those equipment will be used for the benefit of the students. Finally he thanked both Old Boys Associations for the generous contributions made for essential ingredients of the latest education methods.
