LOLC Group recently signed a MoU with the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo (UoC), extending its engagement with the UoC Partnership Program for another year up to 2020, whilst leading tea exporter Akbar Brothers joined this program this year.
The UoC Partnership Program is an initiative of the Alumni, to work closely with leading private and public sector organisations to provide opportunities for enhanced corporate sector involvement and support in the UoC’s activities. Deutsche Bank AG, Sri Lanka, Nations Trust Bank and 3Cs are the other corporate partners, with more in the pipeline.
It is anticipated, as in the past years, this Partnership Program will provide further impetus to the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo to carry out its student development and welfare activities including mentoring, communication, soft skills and leadership programs, career guidance, inspirational talks, health programs, member engagement and social activities.
UoC Alumni President Rajeev Amarasuriya said he was extremely happy that, for the third year running, this program has benefitted the Association in carrying out its many activities with considerably more engagement with students and Alumni. He thanked the corporate partners for the trust and confidence they have shown by continuing in this program, and to the new partners who have come on board, recognizing the value and contribution they could make through this program.
He went on to state that even though the University of Colombo is located in the capital of Colombo, it caters to the crème-de-la-crème of the youth in Sri Lanka, who enter the University of Colombo from every part and every district of the country through the very competitive Advanced Level Examination, and therefore the contribution by these corporates is directly beneficial to the best of the best of students from around the country. Speaking on this occasion, LOLC Chief Human Resources Officer Pradeep Uluwaduge said, “It is indeed a pleasure to partner with the premier National University in Sri Lanka continuously for the third year. LOLC being the largest conglomerate in the country and as a responsible corporate citizen, is committed to create a better future for our country through developing Sri Lankan younger generation. Partnership with the Alumni Association of UoC paves a great pathway for us to achieve this noble goal.”
Akbar Brothers Group Chief Operating Officer Janek Jayasekera said, “As the largest exporter of Ceylon Tea in the world and a successful diversified conglomerate, we are known for our culture and traditions in placing the highest value on integrity and excellence. We are pleased to join hands with the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo in contributing to the general socio-economic development of our country.”
