Keeping in line with its long established tradition of assisting in the capacity building of Sri Lankan government officers, KOICA Sri Lanka will be offering all inclusive scholarships for Master’s degree programs to 10 selected officials from various government institutions in Sri Lanka. The degree programs will be conducted in reputed universities in the Republic of Korea with study fields spanning the four main sectors of Governance, Rural Development, Health and Technology, and Environment and Energy.
Through the scholarship program, the 10 selected officers will gain enhanced knowledge and experience specifically in the study areas of Agricultural Production, Global ICT Policy, Community Development, Agricultural Economics, Gender Equality Leadership, Water Resources Management, Atmospheric Environment, and Regulation Management for Economic Development. Since the first KOICA Scholarship fellowship was offered in 2005, a total of 84 government officers from Sri Lanka have received master’s degrees up to date.
Participants of the Masters program will be provided with the best academic environment, including exposure to various extracurricular events designed to provide firsthand experience in pertinent Korean industries and culture. It is expected that once they complete the program and return to Sri Lanka, they will share the experience and knowledge gained in Korea with their colleagues and organisations in the respective fields.
Since 1991, KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) has cooperated with the Government of Sri Lanka to implement various development cooperation programs with the view of enhancing the living standards of the Sri Lankan people. One of their important means of cooperation has been providing capacity building programs to nurture key future leaders in Sri Lanka who can contribute to the socio-economic development of their country. These capacity building programs are not only limited to short term trainings, but also long term scholarship programs as mentioned above.
