John Keells awarded at Sri Lanka CSR Leadership Awards 2018

John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) was awarded at the Sri Lanka CSR Leadership Awards 2018 for Community Development. The awards ceremony was held on 19 July at Taj Samudra, Colombo.

The CSR Leadership Awards recognise corporate entities and individuals that have made a significant and positive impact on the lives of people around them, through their involvement in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs that respect communities, the environment and people.

Speaking at the award ceremony,JKH Assistant Vice President and Head of Operations – CSR Carmeline Jayasuriya said, “We at John Keells are delighted and honoured to be recognised for our multiple and long-term community development initiatives within a framework of six focus areas – namely, Education, Health, Livelihood Development, Environment, Arts and Culture and Disaster Relief. All our community engagements are driven by a culture of empowerment in keeping with the Group’s CSR vision of ‘Empowering the Nation for Tomorrow’. We remain strongly committed to empowering our people and communities with the right mindsets, skills, capacities and opportunities which will help lead them to a better future. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the small but committed team at John Keells Foundation as well as our legion of passionate volunteers.” 

The John Keells Group firmly believes that Community Development is the foundation of sustainable growth and impacts access to social, economic, environmental and basic human rights of people. Hence the Group’s CSR initiatives are intrinsically intertwined and connected to social, economic and environment concerns and aligned with the 5Ps of the Sustainable Development Goals – namely, People, Planet, Partnerships, Prosperity and Peace.

Since its establishment in 2005, John Keells Foundation – the Group’s CSR entity – undertakes and is responsible for the Group’s CSR initiatives aimed at underserved communities in various parts of Sri Lanka through multiple medium to long term strategic and sustainable projects aligned to Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Global Compact.
