The first International Conference on Management and Entrepreneurship (ICOME) organised by the Faculty of Management Studies, Open University of Sri Lanka will be held on 31 March and 1 April online.
The Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is the nation’s premier Open and Distance Learning (ODL) establishment with a history of over 40 years.
OUSL has a long history of management education and commenced teaching management as early as 1980.
In its illustrious history of academic excellence, efficiency, and equity we have contributed to the development of management education in Sri Lanka.
Being the youngest faculty of the university, the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) takes pride in holding the first International Conference on Management and Entrepreneurship (ICOME) 2022 under the theme of ‘’Business Management: Innovation, Challenges, and Resilience’’.
The event would be graced by Prof. Philip Kotler and Prof. Xiaobo WU, who are renowned researchers in the field of Business Management.
One of the major attributes of this event is to appreciate and facilitate a forum for researchers worldwide to present their research studies.
The objectives of the conference are to bring local and foreign researchers and practitioners to one forum to share, disseminate current developments and insights in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, strengthen the scholarly and professional network among researchers and underpin the need for collaboration and cooperation of individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds in Business Management and Entrepreneurship to contribute for a sustainable future.
Around 70 research papers and speeches on management and entrepreneurship will be presented by local and foreign researchers.
Furthermore, there will be an industrial forum on 1 April on " Towards a New Normal: Understanding Business Opportunities" align with ICOME.
Sri Lanka needs to practice more discipline in local and global business practices at this critical juncture with the pandemic.
Anyway, it can be seen that a “Strategic Window “opened for Sri Lanka through which opportunities have been created in both local and global markets. Hence there is a need to have proactive measures by the stakeholders.
In this technical forum, it is expected to discuss the strategies to be incorporated for a sustainable future.
More importantly as one of the special features in ICOME, 27 May declares as “Marketing Day in Sri Lanka”. This is to mark respect to Professor Philip Kotler, the 'Father of Modern Marketing” for his great contribution to the subject domain of marketing. Professor Philip is well respected for his involvement in the world and for developing countries to make the subject of marketing one of the important and popular among other disciplines for sustainable development.
27 May is the birthday for Prof. Philip Kotler and the declaration of “Marketing Day” made by the Open University Vice-chancellor Prof. P.M.C. Thilakerathne.
