DreamJobs.lk, Sri Lanka’s largest online recruitment platform revealed that over 63% users visited the site via their smartphones in 2017, recording an increase of 115% when compared to the previous year’s statistics. The company forecasts that over 76% users will turn to the use of smartphones by end 2018. This trend is part and parcel of a larger movement towards a tech savvy job market where both recruiters and job seekers look to adapt to and leverage on the rapid technological advancements taking place across the globe as well as Sri Lanka.
In line with this particular trend, DreamJobs.lk has its own iOS and Android smartphone apps, making them the first major online recruitment platform in Sri Lanka to release smartphone apps on both platforms. The main obstacles to job market growth in Sri Lanka is the education system that remains stagnant and the constraints that of the existing labour force face in adjusting to the fast-evolving, technology-driven demand of the economy. In addition, youth inactivity that remains a larger problem in Sri Lanka with more and more young people aged 15-24 not engaged in employment, education or training adds fuel to this issue.
