Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya recently presented his book titled ‘Rise above Organisational Dilemma’ to Chartered Institute of Personnel Management President Jayantha Amarasinghe in the presence of the current Council members and the CEO.
The book covers subject areas such as ‘Organisational dilemma – more serious than what meets the eye,’ ‘Approaches to keep people on track,’ ‘Riding the waves,’ What do employees want?’ ‘Results orientation,’ ‘Creating passion and drive,’ ‘Managerial dilemma,’ ‘Business processes to heal organisational dilemma,’ ‘Create the driving force,’ ‘Strategy to overcome managerial dilemma’ and ‘Determination!’.
The Forewords for the book were written by J.D. Bandaranayake (former Chairman of Ceylon Tobacco Co. Ltd. and former Chairman of the Board of Investment), Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri (Former Director, Post Graduate Institute of Management) and A.R. Dias Bandaranaike.
Dr. Joel Greeman of the Freeman Institute Inc., USA, Dr. Paul Mooney (former Head of HR of General Electric) and K. Ravindran (former Global President of Rotary International) have their endorsements published in the book.
In 1983, Dr. Jayasuriya sat for Parts I and II of the Personnel Management Institute simultaneously and passed both examinations followed by his research dissertation which was submitted within six months of the examinations. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.
The Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM) was founded in 1959 by a small group of professionals with the objective of developing and promoting the profession of personnel management. In recent times, the Institute has taken giant strides in establishing itself as a very significant nurturer of Human Resources professionals in the country. The Institute of Personnel Management was subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976, and its name was amended by Act No. 31 of 2018 as the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).
Apart from holding senior responsibilities in the local corporates, Dr. Jayasuriya has held regional appointments at Sterling Winthrop (East Africa) and Smithkline Beecham (Southeast Asia and India), now known as GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). He is Chairman of McQuire Rens Global Consulting (Pvt) Ltd. and Non-Executive Chairman of Eswaran Brothers Exports Ltd. Dr. Jayasuriya was appointed as Director to the Boards of International Climate Complexity Institute and International World Peace Institute, Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 2016.
Dr. Jayasuriya has shared some of the challenges he has faced and overcome in the local and overseas corporates which are expressed in an easy-to-absorb and pragmatic manner. His managerial prescriptions appeal to local managers as he has positioned the content in such a way that an enthusiastic reader could apply the learning to the sharp end of the business.
