On ‘Practical applications of Mindfulness in Corporate Life’

The Colombo School of Business and Management (CSBM), www.csbm.edu.lk, the premier ‘Business School of the Nation’ recently held its pioneering signature event ‘Talk of Month’, a half-day program titled ‘Practical applications of Mindfulness in Corporate Life’ conducted by eminent corporate trainer and executive coach, Deepal Sooriyaarachchi. The inaugural Talk of the Month in this program series titled ‘Emotional Intelligence’ was conducted by Prof. Ranjith Bandara, Senior Professor of Economics of the University of Colombo.

“Talk of the Month was initiated by CSBM as a platform for prominent corporate personalities for mentoring and knowledge sharing the next generation of executives and management, following the success in CSBM’s signature brand event series, ‘Evening with a Corporate Leader EWCL’ with top corporate leaders Dhammika Perera, Ashok Pathirage, Otara Chandiram, Ashroff Omar, Dilith Jayaweera to name a few,” said CSBM Director Sales and Marketing Leonard Michael Perera.

Deepal Sooriyaarachchi, a renowned corporate trainer, executive coach, author partnering CSBM as guest speaker of the event shared how he benefited from practicing mindfulness from early days of his career and invited the audience to benefit from this simple yet powerful practice. “By practicing mindfulness you learn to pay attention to what really happens here and now without getting entangled, from a perspective of strong subjectivity. Thus the corporate executives will be able to approach things from a fresh point of view. This ability to be in the present reduces thinking about challenges in a way that generates stress a major cause for corporate burnouts and physical and mental retardation,” said Deepal who also conducted a guided practical session on how to start the practice of mindfulness and shared many tips on how to integrate the practice to daily life.

“You cannot segregate life in to compartments. There is only one life and you got to live it being fully aware as much as possible,” was his key message. Deepal’s book ‘Inward bound for Mindful Living’ was the basis of this half-day session.
