The premier Management Quiz Program ‘CMI Quiz Challenge 2019’ organised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Sri Lanka Branch for the 4th time, successfully concluded at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel Colombo on 23 October amidst an eminent gathering of members and professionals from the corporate sector.
With the participation of 36 teams in eight prominent registration categories, the event was worked as a live table quiz using electronic devices, and conducted by popular media personality Faizal Bongzo as the Quiz Master. The keen interest shown by the participants very clearly indicated the growing enthusiasm for quizzing in Sri Lanka.
Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, KPMG Sri Lanka and Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC) joined hands with CMI Sri Lanka as knowledge partners of this Quiz Challenge.
Red Paper functioned as the Marketing and Communications partner, PIMA (Alumni Association of University of Sri Jayawardenapura) as the Strategic partner and 361 Degrees Ltd. as the Electronic Service partner for the event. PIM also took on the responsibility of setting questions for the quiz which became more interesting to the participants as some questions were based on visuals and video clips.
Laugfs Gas PLC was the Platinum sponsor of the Quiz Challenge while NDB Bank and Oxford College of Business were co-sponsors.
Team Dialog Axiata led by Mohammed Rikaz emerged the overall winners and were presented with the CMI Quiz Challenge Trophy, certificates and a cash award of Rs.100,000. Their team included Arshaq Farally, Nirmal Jayawardena, Nafli Najab and Kaushini Perera and others.
The first runners up of the CMI Quiz Challenge 2019 was the DFCC Bank team led by Nalin Karunatillake. They too received an attractive trophy, certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 60,000.
The second runner up McLarens Holdings led by Gayantha Jayakody received Rs. 40, 000 as prize money as well as certificates of excellence.
The presentation of the main awards was made by the CMI Sri Lanka President Murali Prakash accompanied by the Quiz Challenge Project Chairman Rohitha Amarapala.
The sector winners were DFCC Bank (Banking Sector), Ceylinco Life Insurance (Finance and Insurance), Dialog Axiata (Telecom and IT), MAS Bodyline (Manufacturing Apparel and Textiles), Hemas Manufacturing (FMCG and Retail), Aitken Spence (Food and Beverages), McLarens Holdings (Special Category) while NDB Bank, Central Finance, Mobitel Sri Lanka, Ocean Lanka, Morrisons PLC, Waters Edge and South Asia Gateway Terminal Ltd. emerged runners up in each of these sectors respectively.
CMI Sri Lanka presented trophies to all sector winners and the runners up; therefore as many as 17 teams received an attractive award at the end of the event.
The Quiz was followed by cocktails and fellowship, with entertainment provided by a Korean musical troupe that enhanced the splendour of the event.
