CIPM Sri Lanka announced the successful completion of its 5th CIPM International Research Symposium on HRM 2021 via virtual platforms, recently providing a unique forum for scholarly contributions towards the advancement of the national and global HR fraternity.
Organised by the CIPM Standing Committee on Applied Research and Knowledge Centre, this year’s theme was ’Global Crises and Future of Work’ with special emphasis on the effectiveness of HRM practices in the performance of private, public, and NGO sector organisations locally and internationally. The Research Symposium also provided a unique forum for HR practitioners, researchers, faculty, and students to present their scholarly contributions on contemporary HR issues to disseminate and recognise their research findings.

The symposium comprised an inaugural session, a vibrant panel discussion, technical sessions encompassing seven tracks, a case study session, and a valedictory session. Several well-known HRM practitioners, academics, national and international HRM researchers, and the CIPM Ex-Co contributed to the dynamic sessions. A record 400+ attendees participated in the symposium.
Technical sessions were chaired by Dr. Richard Wickramaratne, Prof. T. Mangaleswaran, Prof. H. M. A. Herath, Prof. Sivalogadasan, Prof. Susima Weligamage, Prof Aruna Shantha Gamage and Prof. Kumudini Dissanayake and were Co-chaired by Dr. Lasanthika Sajeevanie, Dr. Padmini Jayasekera, Dr. Jayarani Ramawickrama, Dr. Kumudu Jayawardena, Dr. Yogarajah Nanthagopan, Dr. Sheshika Kariyapperuma and Dr. Ruwan Abeysekera.
Case study session was chaired by Janaka Kumarasinghe and Co-Chaired by Ken Vijayakumar and Priyantha Ranasinghe. Prof. Prasadini Gamage chaired the valedictory session, and Winners of the Best Paper and the Best Presenter were announced under each track.
Notably, the symposium’s published its conference proceedings which comprised over 500 pages, including 47 research papers, a Case study book with success stories of seven leading companies during the pandemic and the Journal of HRM Perspectives of CIPM.
Commenting on the success of the event, CIPM President Jayantha Amarasinghe said, “The 5th CIPM International Research Symposium on HRM 2021 has successfully turned a new page in CIPM/IPM history especially during the pandemic by concluding a great scholarly event not only for the academic world but also adding foods for the brain creating and sharing knowledge for the betterment of the national and global HR fraternity. The hard work of our Standing Committee must be commended.”
