CIPM Sri Lanka, the nation’s leader in human resource management, received a strong reassurance of continuing support and cooperation from the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) at its biennial regional board meeting held last month in Nadi, Republic of Fiji to establish the Asia Pacific Centre for HR Excellence in Sri Lanka.
This Centre will be managed by CIPM under the guidance of a Board consisting of the APFHRM member countries and will mainly contribute in facilitating Applied Research on HR and allied subjects, and innovation. It will also be developed as a HR data centre once operational and fully fledged.
APFHRM also pledged its unstinted support to CIPM Sri Lanka in its endeavour to organise the World HR Congress in Sri Lanka in July 2020. CIPM Sri Lanka President and APFHRM Vice President/Board Member Dhammika Fernando together with CIPM External Affairs Committee Chair Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri represented CIPM Sri Lanka at the meeting.
“We are happy to note that the constituent members of the APFHRM at the regional meeting in Fiji extended their whole hearted support to CIPM in our endeavours to establish the AP Centre for HR Excellence and organise the prestigious World HR Congress 2020 in Sri Lanka,” said Dhammika Fernando.
“The technical subcommittee of WC 2020 chaired by Prof. Ajantha is putting together a program which will provide a unique experience to the participating delegates of the World HR Congress,” he added.
The prestigious World HR Congress – the largest human resource management conference in the world is an initiative of the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA) headquartered in Virginia, USA of which the APFHRM is a constituent body representing the people management associations in the Asia Pacific region.
CIPM Sri Lanka won the strongly contested bid to host the World HR Congress 2020 in Sri Lanka at the annual meeting of the APFHRM in Hong Kong in 2018. The World HR Congress will be held from 6 to 8 July at the BMICH in Colombo.
The World HR Congress enables HR professionals to build a global community of peers, to discuss new developments in HRM, and to network with colleagues from around the world who face similar complex challenges in human resource management. Reflecting its international origins and concerns, the meeting location moves among member countries of the WFPMA. The World HR Congress has been held since 1986 in 12 different countries.
The regional meeting of the APFHRM – the first since the awarding of the Charter Status to CIPM was also an opportunity to celebrate the prospects of promoting the HR Charter Status to upgrade the competencies and recognition of people professionals in Sri Lanka. CIPM is affiliated to the APFHRM and to the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA). CIPM, being a professional institute is also a constituent member of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) Sri Lanka. Currently, CIPM membership comprises of over 1,200 professional members who serve in both public and private organisations. The Chartered Status was conferred on CIPM by the Parliament of Sri Lanka on 28 September 2018 by amending the original Act No. 24 of 1976.
