The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will commence an online certificate course in compliance next week, and it will be the 11th online certificate course conducted by the BASL since the pandemic.

The course is due to commence on 9 March 2022 and will comprise of specialists in the field with many resource persons from the Central Bank with lectures being conducted over a period of 10 weeks, every Wednesday afternoon on the zoom platform.
The Legal Experts as Resource Persons will include Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Monetary Board Secretary Assistant Governor J.P.R. Karunaratne, CBSL Additional Director Bank Supervision Department R.S. De Silva Jayatilleke, CBSL Deputy Director Financial Intelligence Unit Attorney-at-Law Ayesh Ariyasinghe, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Bank Supervision Department Attorney-at-Law A. Edirisinghe, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Bank Supervision Department W.A.M.S.B. Abeysinghe, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Bank Supervision Department S.I. Alahendra, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Bank Supervision Department R.D. Joseph, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Payments and Settlements Department Attorney-at-Law K. Ambagahawita, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Regional Development Department G.S. Kamileen, CBSL Senior Assistant Director Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions A.A. Pradeep, DFCC Bank Vice President Compliance Chaya Guneratne Attorney-at-Law , General Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka Director Attorney-at-Law Damayanthi Fernando and Seylan Bank PLC Head of Compliance and Association of Compliance Officers’ of Banks President Attorney-at-Law Dilani Sooriyaarachchi.
BASL President Saliya Pieris PC said: “This is the first time the BASL is conducting a certificate course in compliance which is an emerging area for lawyers, and it is in this backdrop that we decided to conduct this course. I encourage those already in the area of compliance as well members looking at the option to specialise in the area of Compliance to join.”
BASL Secretary Rajeev Amarasuriya said: “This is the 11th online certificate course conducted after the onset of the pandemic, and the course in compliance is a first for the BASL. Not only is this an important new area, with the growth of the economy and the added impetus when the Port City becomes a leading financial centre in the region, there will be much demand for those with specialty in compliance.”
He also thanked the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for the technical support and guidance and for many of the resource persons for this course.
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has organised a felicitation ceremony to honour members who have completed 50 years between March 2019 and 11 March.
The ceremony will be held on 11 March at Hilton Colombo. Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya PC will be the Chief Guest.
