“Professionalism means consistency of quality,” said Frank Tyger. But someone’s professionalism is not a measurement of his or her educational qualifications. It is a parameter of a person’s long and intensive academic preparation, competency, integrity and specialised knowledge. Though equipped with every possible need to be a professional, there is no worth, if it is not exposed to the society. ‘Are You Ready?’ acts as a platform to bridge the gap between the talents and talent seekers.
‘Are You Ready?’, organised by Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, marks the official careers week of the university. Having passed 22 successful milestones, ‘Are You Ready?’ plays a major role in providing employment opportunities for final year undergraduates of the university.
‘Are You Ready? 2018’ comprises six sessions. The limelight of the event is on the ‘Flagship day’ which will be held on 9 November. This session focuses on real or mock interviews which will be advantageous for the final year undergraduates to get an experience on how to face an eminent panel of interviewers. Mock interviews help the undergraduates to reduce their stress and fear about interviews and to boost their self-confidence to face challenges they should take in the future, while real interviews provide the opportunity for the experts in the industry to identify exceptional talents among the talented undergraduates providing a fresh and a smooth recruiting process. Moreover, employers get the chance to meet a large number of candidates in a one-stop environment and also to increase their brand awareness among talented young blood.
Other four sessions focus on moulding the personalities of the students according to the needs of the corporate world. ‘The Résumé’ offers proficiency in crafting a sound CV and ‘YouthBIZ’ offer proper guidance on continuing part-time jobs and developing entrepreneurship. ‘The Image’ creates a platform for all the undergraduates to get a proper knowledge about personal branding while ‘The Exemplar’ enables the undergraduates to better comprehend the values and traits that are sought after by the employers globally. All of these sessions are worthwhile for all the students to acquire a clear view on the opportunities they can have after their graduation which will stimulate the students to refine their skills to match the job market that they will enter in the imminent future.
Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa hand in hand with its Career Guidance Unit invites all interested parties and organisations to be a part of this grand event and to experience what real professionalism is.
