Construction industry is the employer of the 7% of the nation’s 7.8 million workforce (Situational Analysis on Health and Safety in Sri Lanka, WHO, November 2016). Implementation of health and safety standards ensures the achievement of highest possible level of physical, mental and social well-being of the workforce and helps prevent workers deviating from good health to ill health due to exposure to hazards and risks encountered at work. A healthy workforce may contribute significantly towards the economic growth and also an attraction for FDIs.
