Sri Lanka will host the world’s biggest crocodile conference (22nd Working Meeting of the Crocodile Specialist Group IUCN-SSC) from 20 to 23 May at the Goldi Sands Hotel Negombo.
This is the first time such an event of this magnitude will be taking place in South Asia. The main organising body, the IUCN-SSC Crocodile Specialist Group (CSG) is a worldwide network of biologists, wildlife managers, government officials, independent researchers, non-government representatives.
A global forum representing scientists from universities, veterinary specialists in crocodile management as well as professional crocodile farm managers will deliver addresses during the scientific sessions.
As presently the crocodile populations and their natural habitats are getting depleted due to human activities in many parts of South Asia, during the proposed scientific forum we plan several symposiums mainly focusing on gharial, human-crocodile conflict, conservation, diseases, captive care, management and many other research topics.
