The UNP representatives on the Parliamentary Select Committee will decide whether to answer summons if issued in the Court of Appeal hearing of a writ application by Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake, UNP Senior Vice President Lakshman Kiriella said.
Kiriella and his 10 parliamentary colleagues on the PSC were issued notice by the Court of Appeal yesterday.
Kiriella said that as a lawyer, it was his view that the courts must be respected.
He added that although it could be construed as a violation of the Speaker’s determination about parliamentarians not being required to heed the notices of the courts, if the courts were to issue a warrant for the MPs, the Speaker would not be able to assist in anyway.
