In view of the Vesak festival, the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has taken steps to operate two Wi-Fi dansals equipped with freely-offered internet facilities. One of them will be in Colombo and the other in Matara. ICTA says that this is the first time in the history of Sri Lanka that two such Wi-Fi dansals are being operated. Accordingly, the Colombo Wi-Fi dansala will be set up at the Lake House Daham Vesak Zone and the Matara Wi-Fi dansala will be set up covering the Matara Public Library and Hospital premises. By now 83 free Wi-Fi zones have been set up covering 17 districts in the country. The first free Wi-Fi zone was set up centred at the Colombo Fort Railway Station recently under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
