Parliament is set to take a re-vote today to pass a Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 55 million after it was found that the vote taken last evening was tied at 31 each.
The vote taken at the end of the debate on the estimate last evening in the chamber gave the government a majority 33 votes in its favour and 31 votes against.
The presiding MP Lucky Jayawardena announced the estimate passed.
However the JVP that called for the vote as well as joint opposition groups mp s alleged the vote was not counted properly and asked that footage of the proceedings be scrutinized by parliamentary officials in their presence.
After scrutinising the footage it was found that the vote was tied at 31 each.
Hence it is likely to be out to a re vote today even though there is no precedence of reconsidering a matter already approved by the house.
