State Bank of India MD, Chief GM Intl. Banking in town for 150-year celebration

State Bank of India Managing Director A. Krishna Kumar and Chief General Manager (International Banking) R. Karthikeyan are in Sri Lanka today to officiate at ceremonies to mark 150 years of successful operations in Sri Lanka. The high profile officials will visit the flagship branch at Sir Baron Jayatilleke Mawatha today morning whilst later in the evening they will attend a reception to celebrate the 150th anniversary in the presence of Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal and Indian High Commissioner Y. K. Sinha and customers. Kumar is a career banker with more than 38 years of rich experience in all the facets of banking. He joined the Bank in 1975 as a Probationary Officer. Prior to the present assignment, Shri Krishna Kumar has handled a number of other important assignments. As a Deputy General Manager he was in-charge of Commercial Banking at Ahmedabad, and later held the position of Circle Financial Officer in the Hyderabad Circle of the Bank. Thereafter he was one of the first team leaders of Business Process Reengineering Project of the Bank. As a General Manager, he was in-charge of Learning and Development in the Human Resources Department at the Bank’s Corporate Centre. In September 2004, he was posted as General Manager in the Bank’s Chandigarh Circle, where he was in-charge of more than 300 branches spread over 22 districts of Punjab. On his promotion as Chief General Manager, he headed the Mid Corporate Group of the Bank. Later, in October 2007, he was posted as the Chief General Manger of the Bank’s Patna Circle and was in-charge of the bank’s business spread over the states of Bihar and Jharkhand. On his promotion as Deputy Managing Director, he headed the Bank’s Information Technology Department from July 2009 onwards. He has been elevated as Managing Director and Group Executive in April 2011 and has also been appointed as Director to the Central Board of the Bank. He is also on the Boards of SBI Life Insurance Company Limited, SBI General Insurance Company Ltd. and SBI Cards & Payments Services Ltd. He is one of the key persons in policy making and formulating the strategies for the Bank. He has been at the core of direction setting for Retail Business of the Bank as Managing Director and Group Executive (National Banking), overseeing more than 15,700 branches of the Bank and has provided leadership to the Bank’s Retail Business including Commercial Loans, Agricultural Loans, Home Loans, Auto Loans and other Retail Loans. Presently, he is heading International Banking Group (IBG) with effect from 1 May 2014 and oversees the Bank’s International Operations spread over 36 countries. Chief General Manager (International Banking) Karthikeyan took over the present assignment in April 2013. He joined the bank as a Probationary Officer in the year 1978 and has held, with distinction, a variety of critical and challenging assignments in the Bank including an assignment at SBI’s Los Angeles office. Karthikeyan, before taking over the present assignment, was the Chief General Manager (Corporate Strategy & New Businesses). Earlier as the General Manager (Payment Solutions) at Corporate Centre, Mumbai he was responsible for launch and monitoring of technology based payment products in SBI. He has also held the position of the General Manager responsible for Retail Business Development in Karnataka (India). His areas of expertise are project financing, corporate financing, payment solutions, including cards and mobile banking, and also retail banking. He is also a SBI Nominee Director in SBI Botswana Ltd., SBI California, SBI Canada, SBI Mauritius Ltd. and Nepal SBI Bank Ltd. He brings with him a rich combination of knowledge and experience.
