SriLankan Airlines starts door-to-door delivery service in UK

SriLankan Cargo recently expanded its range of facilities with another value added service – door delivery service of unaccompanied baggage from the Colombo City Cargo Office to any destination in the UK.

This SriLankan Door Delivery Cargo Service will provide its customers a speedy delivery of their personal baggage, gifts and sample shipments right up to their doorstep in the UK. Delivery to any address in the United Kingdom will be within two working days, depending on the area. SriLankan Airline’s Senior Manager Cargo (Worldwide Sales & Marketing) Ali Kamil said: “Airport to door delivery of our clients’ cargo will be one of our key competitive advantages in the near future.”  Among the exclusive services t is Customs clearance, clearing and documentation formalities at destination airports and delivery to customer’s door.Any charges on dutiable items will have to be borne by the consignee on delivery to the door. This new Door Delivery Cargo service is operated in collaboration with Air & Cargo Services Limited in the United Kingdom.   

Cargo Sales Manager Sri Lanka Mahiman Yapa said: “We are hoping to extend this service to our other online destinations in the near future.”

The scheduled service commenced on 1 December 2011 and is spearheaded by Senior Cargo Sales Executive Clare Wijesinhe.

SriLankan Airlines Cargo, the cargo arm of the airline, plays a leading role in the country’s export industry and contributes approximately 14 per cent of the total revenue of the airline.  

The airline’s cargo terminal in Katunayake which has heavy duty storage racks inclusive of a six-tier racking system has the capacity to handle 300 metric tonnes of cargo.  

It also has additional features including freezer and cold rooms, reefer container facility to store cargo at a temperature within 15-18 degrees centigrade, a dangerous goods handling unit, handling and storage facility for radioactive material and live animals.
