Sri Lanka Tourism in collaboration with the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Embassy in France has arranged a pavilion at Cannes Film Festival in France which will be held from 11 to 22 May.
The Cannes Festival (Festival de Cannes), is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France which previews new films of all genres. This is the first time that Sri Lanka Tourism has initiated a promotional campaign at this world renowned film festival.
Over the years, many iconic Academy Award winning movies and popular films have been shot on location in Sri Lanka but as a nation, Sri Lanka has not capitalised on the success of these movies to actively promote the country as a film destination. Cannes Film Festival is an ideal opportunity to create an impact to highlight unique locations and characteristics of the country.
“By arranging a Pavilion at the festival, Sri Lanka Tourism has also given the opportunity and created a platform for local stakeholders in the film industry to get actively involved in promoting Sri Lanka as an ideal film location,” said Director Public Relations Dushan Wickramasuriya representing Sri Lanka Tourism at the Cannes Film Festival.
