UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in his New Year message warned that the country and people were entering 2013 with unprecedented gloom.
“We step into the decisive year of 2013 amidst many doubts regarding our country, its future and the way of life of our people,” said Wickremesinghe in his message, though currently holidaying in Europe. “In spite of all this, the people of this country still cling to hope of a better future, prosperity, and a society that safeguards democracy and human rights and adheres to the rule of law in the New Year,” the Opposition Leader said.
“These desires could only be fulfilled by building a free society with economic policies that go beyond the market and offer equal opportunities to all. This is our greatest challenge in the New Year before us. May we have the strength and opportunity to meet those challenges,” UNP Leader Wickremasinghe added.
