The Finance Ministry has imposed a special Commodity Levy on imported agricultural products.
Aimed to protect and encourage domestic farmers the special commodity levy will effect for three months starting from October 14.
Products such as green gram, black gram, cowpea, chillies, kurakkan and few other imported agricultural products will come under to special commodity levy.
A Rs. 30 per kg tax will be imposed on Green gram (Moong); Rs. 90 per kg for Black gram; Rs. 75 per kg for Cowpea; Rs. 40 per kg for Chillies – crushed or ground; Rs. 30 per kg for Others (Millet).
