A special Cabinet meeting will be held on Avant-Garde next week, President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday.

When Cabinet met on Thursday, the issue had been discussed and a special Cabinet meeting will be held next week to discuss it in full.

The Government was this week accused of deceit in its probe on fraud and corruption, including in several high-profile cases.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake in an adjournment motion debate told Parliament that the Government gave the impression to the public it was fighting corruption but was really doing the opposite.

Dissanayake said that even investigations into the Avant-Garde floating armory had not progressed as far as one expected.

He claimed that Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi had met some members of the Government, raising suspicion of a hidden deal.

The JVP Leader said that Senadhipathi had also sought a meeting with him but he refused to meet him. (Colombo Gazette)
