Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the national telecommunications service provider, has a million reasons to herald the New Year on a celebratory note.
One of its most successful and popular products, SLT Megaline, has registered its one millionth customer – that’s one million fixed lines connecting one million families, i.e. over 4.5 million people across the island.
An incredible one million active fixed-line users – not just one million connections – leaves the country’s largest telecommunications provider justifiably proud of its achievement.
SLT Megaline’s unique selling point of Triple Play capabilities offer customers the liberating experience of choosing which services to subscribe to based on individual needs and budget.
Depending on customer preference, they can subscribe to Single Play (telephone only), Double Play (telephone and Broadband or PEO TV) or Triple Play (telephone, Broadband and PEO TV); presenting the consumer with the freedom of choice.
“Sri Lanka Telecom has been empowering the nation for over 150 years, mainly through our fixed-line capacity,” commented Greg Young, Chief Executive Officer of SLT.
“As a national icon, SLT is at the forefront of enhancing ICT throughout the island via our nation-wide network modernisation project, ‘i-Sri Lanka,’ in line with the Government’s vision to take ICT to the more remote areas of the country. Our achievement of reaching the one million mark on our Megaline subscriber base is therefore a significant milestone.”
Under the ‘i-Sri Lanka’ project, SLT is working on expanding and upgrading its network to provide SLT Megaline customers with the highest quality voice capabilities, as well as consistent and uninterrupted high speed internet and interactive television facilities across the country.
It will provide an ideal platform for private business networking, interactive entertainment, distance learning, online education, e-health and much more at superior speed, high quality and high reliability. ‘i-Sri Lanka’ brings access to SLT’s PEOTV services by opening up a whole new dimension of visual entertainment to a larger audience.
Indeed, Sri Lanka Telecom can be proud of its achievements in 2012. Among the many accolades conferred was the Gold Award for financial reporting, with SLT’s annual report setting the benchmark in financial reporting. SLT was also bestowed the Brand Leadership Award at the Global Awards for Brand Excellence which was held in India last November.
A Silver Award at the HRM Awards 2012, conducted by the Association of Human Resources Professionals in partnership with AON Hewitt India, was another feather in SLT’s cap; as were the Best Corporate Citizen in Sri Lanka Award from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and the National Business Excellence Award conferred by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Telecom was also ranked 10th in Business Today’s Top Twenty Five Awards 2010/11, and the LMD 100 ranked the telecom giant at No. 6 in its ranking of the leading listed companies in Sri Lanka for 2012.
