A senior officer attached to the Employees Trust Fund, Saman Kumara, who functioned as a dealer for the fund, has been suspended following an internal inquiry conducted by the Central Bank, Additional Solicitor General Dapula Livera (PC) told the Special Presidential Commission to inquire into the bond issue yesterday.
Livera revealed this in response to a observation made by commission member Justice Prasanna Jayawardana, stating that Kumara has become a “star” in the local media during the cross questioning of Pan Asia Bank Deputy General Manager of the Primary Dealers Division, Aruna Benedict Dias, led by legal counsel for Perpetual Treasuries Nihal Fernando (PC).

A voice recording of a telephone conversation between an officer of Pan Asia Bank and Kumara was played during the hearing yesterday, during the cross examination of Dias.
