SC sets aside order preventing MTV/MBC from broadcasting Olympics

The interim injunction order issued by the Commercial high Court preventing the MTV/MBC media network from broadcasting the Olympics was set aside by the Supreme Court yesterday.

The ruling was given when an appeal filed by MTV/MBC Network was taken up before a three-Judge bench of the Supreme Court consisting the of the Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake and Justice Nimal Gamini Marasekara and K. Sri Pavan.

The facts presented by the both the parties were examined at length and the three-Judge bench decided to set aside the injunction order issued by the Commercial High Court. The Supreme Court also decided to re-examine the appeal.

The Commercial High Court earlier issued an enjoining order preventing the Asia Pacific Broadcasting (APC) from giving broadcasting rights of the Olympic Games this year to a private television station in Sri Lanka after state owned Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) filed a case before court saying it had sole rights to telecast the games.
