Head of the Sri Lankan delegation to the UNHRC’s 22nd Session, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe is scheduled to meet with UN High Commissioner Navi Pillay when he returns to Geneva for the presentation of Sri Lanka’s UPR report to the Council on 15 March.
Samarasinghe was unable to attend a meeting with High Commissioner Pillay due to a ‘clash of schedules’ of the two officials, informed sources told Daily FT.
Samarasinghe who returned to Colombo after he addressed the High Level Segment of the 22nd Session of the UNHRC last week, will fly back to Switzerland ahead of the presentation of the UPR report and Pillay’s report on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka scheduled for later this month. Critical issues including the US resolution against Sri Lanka will also be taken up during the tail end of the UNHRC session.
