Rs. 12 b fine, 102-year jail term for ex-tax officer

The former Deputy Comm-issioner of the Inland Revenue Department G.S. Jayatillake was yesterday sentenced to a 102-year suspended jail term to be served for three years by the Colombo High Court over a VAT fraud. High Court Judge Kumuduni Wickremasinghe also imposed a Rs. 11.97 billion fine on Jayatillake after he was found guilty on 34 charges in the case concerning default of VAT amounting to Rs. 3.9 billion.
