The Government of Japan is providing grant aid to Sri Lanka under various aid schemes annually to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Accordingly, the Government of Japan has agreed to provide Rs. 1.3 billion (Yen 1 billion) under non-project grant aid for the development of Trincomalee Port. The grant aid will be utilised to obtain Japanese products needed to improve port and maritime activities at the Trincomalee Harbour and to develop the port’s guidance system.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, has proposed to sign exchange notes with the Government of Japan to obtain those grants.
The Cabinet of Ministers at its regular weekly meeting held Tuesday has approved the Prime Minister’s proposal.
